Schmidt’s Farm and Greenhouse is a locally owned and operated family farm.  We are one of only a few urban farmers left in the Salt Lake Valley.  Our  Greenhouse knowledge lends itself to farming by growing our own tomato  plants, pumpkin plants, pepper plants and squash plants.  In the greenhouse  we also grow beautiful bedding plants, hanging baskets and planter pots.  On  the farm we grow 45+ acres of the best sweet corn in valley, 6 acres of  tomatoes, and 30+ acres of pumpkins. We also grow squash, peppers and  melons.  What we don’t grow i.e. peaches, we bring in from LOCAL farmers  from Brigham City to Alpine Utah.  We work hard to provide you with only  the best local produce and greenhouse plants.

Our Greenhouse is located on 9120 S. Redwood Road in West Jordan, Utah on Great Grandpa Schmidt’s homestead.  Stop by Monday – Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The greenhouse season starts in late February when we start to trans-plant cuttings for your future hanging basket or container.  A few weeks later we begin planting seeds for flats of bedding plants.  Around Mother’s Day everything will be ready for planting in your flower beds, vegetable garden and containers.  Here are a few things you will find when you come!

We locally grow our own bedding and vegetable plants from seed.

We root out quality patented cuttings to produce beautiful geraniums and premium annuals.

We design and plant your containers beginning in March and keep them until they are full grown in May

Farm and Greenhouse

The Schmidt family has lived in West Jordan Utah since 1911.  Grandpa  Schmidt decided to move his family from Salt Lake City in order to raise them on a farm. He purchased land on the west side of a dirt road called Redwood Road and began farming.  His Grandson Richard followed in his and his fathers footsteps.  Richard farmed sweet corn as a hobby and would employ his  children to sell the corn on the lawn of the home he grew up in on Redwood  Road.  Soon, the popularity of the corn grew and he decided to start farming full time.  A short time later after taking a greenhouse class at BYU, Richard decided to build a greenhouse to grow tomato plants.  He also grew some bedding plants and started selling flowers to landscapers.  Landscapers loved the quality of the flowers and each year, would increase their orders.  Soon the landscapers were sending their friends and neighbors over to buy flowers.  Each year, the word of mouth would spread and it was decided that a retail location was needed.  Spring of 2013, a new retail greenhouse was opened on 9120 South Redwood Road, right behind Grandpa’s house where the old barn once stood.

Agriculture in every season

Schmidt’s Farm and Greenhouse is a seasonal business.  In the spring, the greenhouse fires up the furnace starting in late February.  The Greenhouse season slows down by the end of June and the Farm comes on with crops to be harvested starting in August.  The produce stand is put up on the corner of 9000 S. 2200 W. in West Jordan for a few glorious months of farm fresh produce.  As the corn, tomatoes, peppers and melons begin to taper off, the pumpkins are ready for picking!  The pumpkin patch occupies the month of October with fall and Halloween fun.  Then to wrap up the year, beautiful fresh-cut Christmas trees are waiting to be taken home and decorated.  It’s a fantastic season full of wonderful things!
